Brandon's new idea based on Samir's mark/idea

So here's a new idea, based on Samir's venn-diagram mark and concept. We could do a visual venn-diagram of illustration/design objects, concepts, words, etc... So basically Samir's idea, but done with illustration. Here are two examples (of my own work...it's all i got) of the look I'm thinking.

This idea could be the only element on the poster/materials with extremely minimal text. So we'd have this giant, ridiculously awesome illustration visually representing illustration/design printed on the majority of the poster, with some [necessary] type on the bottom. Don't have time right now to do a mock up, but I think you all can imagine.

Anyway, it seems fun, incorporates ill/gd, sort of ballsy (with the minimal text, mostly image poster), and most importantly it could look really good...of course... It would have to be done perfectly though to avoid looking "too hip" and taste-less.

This idea also feels a bit more appropriate for the [potential] guest speaker.

  1. I think that especially if we go with Hendricks this idea could be great. Really, now that you bring it up, we might want to discuss whether we want our promotional materials to reflect our speaker. Personally I don't think it's necessary—the show is about us, not him/her. But in the case of Hendricks + Brandon's idea up there I think it would be really nice.

Obviously the two (speaker and promo) might come together at different times so there's something to be said for keeping them separate, especially if we have any last-minute speaker changes.

  2. The design reflecting the speaker could be a good idea - but, it is about our work, so it should exhibit our personality, and like you said if we did change speakers it might be weird. Anyway, if we do make the design our own and unique in our quest to avoid being trendy (which I think is important) we will probably take care of that...

I like where this is going. In illustrating all kinds of design-y things we can show all of the different areas we get involved with in design, as working on projects requires knowledge and research of a lot of topics. Makes for good concept as well- the show is about us, about our work, and the promos are literally drawn from our hands. It might be nice to come up with a common idea that we illustrate in our own styles for different promo items. Also, by *illustrating* our *designs* we have a merger of the two.

  3. I like where this is going. I agree that our promotional materials should not reflect our speaker necessarily. And I know that is probably not what Brandon is suggesting. But yeah I like where this is going.
